What the Grants Pass Ruling Actually Did
On June 28, 2024, the Supreme Court ruled 6–3 that cities may fine and jail unhoused people for sleeping outside, even when no shelter is available. Since then, over 220 bills criminalizing homelessness have passed nationwide. Fifty-seven percent of unhoused women report domestic violence as the cause. This is what the ruling actually did.
