What We Mean When We Say "Rest Is a Right"

Rest is not a reward. It is not the thing you get after the list is finished. The list is never finished.

The "rest is resistance" framing has been circulating long enough now that it's started showing up on candles and tote bags without the teeth that made it true. So we want to say it plainly: rest is a right because capitalism specifically has a vested interest in keeping women too tired to notice what is being taken from them.

The unpaid labor. The emotional management. The second shift that begins the moment paid work ends. The expectation of availability — for children, for partners, for employers, for the internet — that turns rest into something you have to justify or earn.

The Softer Than You Think collection exists because the body needs a soft place to land. Not to opt out of the fight — but because you cannot sustain the fight from a place of total depletion. Rest is maintenance. Rest is strategy. Rest is what they specifically do not want you to have enough of.

So take it. Without justification.
